Pandemic? Oh. I invite you to join me in slowing down
Sometimes we need to slow down.
I’m probably not the only one who’s sometimes feeling impatient and wanting everything to work the way I want, on the schedule I want.
Sitting here during the whole Covid quarantine, feeling like I should be able to get a ton done, isn’t working out that way. You’d think because I can’t really go anywhere, I’d be more productive. It turns out that the world has shifted in ways we couldn’t have predicted.
So many places are taking their teaching online, meaning the existing platforms are overwhelmed by all these new online programs. I was in the process of switching from one platform to another when everything shut down.
I had suspicions in the beginning, and I was half right. This smaller platform that’s more of a mom and pop operation had a DDoS attack. Now, if you don’t know what that means, it means being so overwhelmed by traffic that it all collapses. What I couldn’t have guessed is that it’s not just the increasing traffic from the virus, or a random attack, it’s from mean people.
These mean people tried to extort money from the mom and pop running the platform. Pay us and we’ll stop attacking you. Of course there’s no way to guarantee they’ll really stop, or they won’t do it again next week. So then I go from normal frustration over my productivity, to being really disappointed in humanity.
What just happened there is interesting. All it takes is a little bit of bad news to question the integrity of all of humanity. This is a trap we fall into really easily. I’ve been seeing stories for days about people doing kind things, people helping each other, and then the one thing comes up and my heart sinks.
Have you experienced this too, when you come across something that’s not kind? Let’s watch out for that. It hurts our hearts, it’s bad for our brain, it makes us feel so bad about the world, so let’s focus on the good stuff. Let’s slow down and appreciate the little things, the kind things, the beautiful things.
My new course will be out soon enough. I don’t know which platform it’ll be on, but the world won’t end because of this. I invite you to join me in slowing down, being more patient with yourself, and more accepting of those things we really can’t change right now.
If you’re looking for a pick me up, go watch John Krasinski get the cast of Hamilton to serenade a girl named Aubrey. (if you stay till the end, you’ll see him wearing a tutu, if that doesn’t get you to smile, I don’t know what else I can do. haha) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oilZ1hNZPRM
